Working with the spirit world is always good for a heartfelt giggle. I find the surprise element most exhilarating. There is nothing but joy to be found when we leave our hearts open to witness coincidence as something more. Here was my recent ‘surprise’.
I am working on a book I intend to publish later this year. The story is about a spirit for whom not one but two guardian spirits stepped forward to support. One guardian spirit was the beautiful soul in the image above. An Indigenous woman named Humishuma, aka Mourning Dove.
Among the many wonderful things this exceptional soul did in her lifetime of advocating for First Nations Peoples was her coup at being cited as the First Native American woman to publish a novel from the First Nations perspective. This book was titled Cogawea. Her appearance throughout the encounters I had with the spirit in my story served as an inspiration to me to complete and publish my book.
Today, I was reading a second book Humishuma is famous for, titled Coyote Stories, in which she shares wisdom told in traditional Indigenous fashion. I randomly picked a story in the middle of her book. Below is the ‘interesting’ sequence of events.
